The greatest thing in the world is not so much where we are, but in what direction we are moving.
~ Oliver Wendell Holmes
It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day chaos that consumes so much of our days. From shuttling kids from school to activities, to dealing with corporate politics, to trying to get a handle on our efforts to create other sources of income, it’s sometimes hard to gauge where we are.
Both of us have come very far in the last couple of years. We’ve combined two families. We’ve taken our family on wonderful trips, from Disney World to white-water rafting. Next month we’re going skiing in Maggie Valley. In a very short period, we’ve built a deep relationship much different from any we’ve had in the past. We’ve enjoyed meeting new friends, introducing each other to our respective families. Overall, this has been a very rewarding and enjoyable couple of years. February 14th will mark the 2nd anniversary of when we first met. While our meeting was improbable, we’re sure that God had a hand in the arrangement.
The quote above from Oliver Wendell Holmes is one of many on the wall in our office. It’s a reminder that the journey is what’s important. And not just the journey, but the direction we’re moving in. While dating we spoke of a lifestyle, one of travel, creation, prosperity, and inspiration. Our efforts this year is in realizing this lifestyle. But most important, it’s taking the time to be reassured that we’re moving in that direction, with God as our guide. That’s what makes the chaos not as overwhelming.
