The beauty of a moving river

Moving River Water

A recent entry on thinkArete.com inspired this photo and blog entry. The photo was taken during our recent trip to North Carolina. The entry from thinkArete spoke about the difference between moving water in a river and a stagnate pool. One creates beauty and power, while the other attracts scum.

That’s a powerful analogy. We’ve noticed in our life that action creates opportunities. Through action, our lives transform. We learn new skills. Create a new experience. Increase our awareness of the dynamic world about us. During our times when we’ve not taken action, life seems to come to a halt. We find ourselves in a rut. Lost.

So the lesson for us has been: Take action. No matter what, action will create something, attact something, teach us something. That’s exciting. Action means that our life tomorrow will be transformed. Maybe just a little bit. Maybe alot. One of the goals in our lives is to take the steps to make us a better person the next day. That’s each day’s goal. Which makes the next day very exciting. And the day after that. Like a stream of water, our stream of days that we’ve lived in the last couple of years has been very exciting, transformative and beautiful. Some days, we’re not quite sure where the stream is taking us, but it’s always somewhere new and educational. And frequently inspiring.
